Where: Phrom Phong area of Bangkok, Sukhumvit 37, above Sarnies Sukhumvit
Drinks: BKK-inspired cocktails, such as Som Tum and Long Island Thai Iced Tea
Food: Innovative snack menu, with hits such as pickled melon Kueh Pie Tee
Music: Think funk, soul, R&B and 80s disco. Now, think more.
Why go to Funkytown
The location – F*nkytown (pronounced Funkytown) is nestled on the 4th and 5th floors with a rooftop alfresco, situated in the same building that houses the successful cafe Sarnies カフェSukhumvit in the heart of Bangkok’s bustling Phrom Phong.
Have you been to Sarnies Sukhumvit? If not, you’ll need this list.
The unique flavours – Get ready for an explosion of flavours rooted in locality & seasonality. The food and drinks have been developed with sustainable practices and diverse ingredients sourced across the region. Diners can expect a creatively curated food menu alongside its signature drinks.
Developed on a funkiness scale of 1 to 5, where guests can work their way through the list and get more adventurous with big flavours — the programme aims to be inclusive yet innovative through its unconventional expressions of familiar flavours in food.
The cocktails
When it comes to funky, this watering hole delivers. Tokyo Banana comes in at funk level 2, while something more gutsy like Caesar Salad stands at funk level 4. Feeling like you can take more? Go for the ultimate with a liquid (and alcoholic) version of street food favourite Som Tum that truly brings in the funk at level 5.
Non-drinker? Not a problem. Half of the signature cocktails are available as mocktails so you can get all the flavour without the high. This just means you get to watch your friends scale the tipsy scale from a safe distance.
Are you more of a classic drinker? Then try the Long Island Thai Tea with a secret recipe yuzu cola. The Cold Brew Martini with coffee kombucha is up for the taking as your second option, with Sundae Old-Fashioned with kinako and black sugar being the night’s big finish.
Food at Funkytown
The funky scale plays a part in the bite-sized snacks menu, too. Try the Hamachi Crudo Tart inspired by the classic Kueh Pie Tee. The Crispy Pig’s Ears comes with a unique fermented durian sambal. Is your mind boggled yet? No? Then try the Bone Marrow Canele. Yup, that’s a savoury Canele all right!
If you’re looking for larger portions, they have options such as Jasmine Wagyu from N.Nuea, which specialises in crossbred Thai-Tajima cows. The ‘Feed Me’ menu is your best bet for the whole F*nkytown food experience, coming in at 980 baht per person. This includes three bites, three plates to share and a dessert.
Funky grooves at Funkytown
True to its name, F*nkytown spins the funkiest music. Playlists cover funk, soul, R&B and 80s disco, with some of Bangkok’s hippest vinyl and digital DJs spinning from Thursdays to Saturdays, making it one of the hottest new destinations to unwind in Bangkok.
F*nkytown is now open to the public and available for bookings online. Enter through
Sarnies カフェ Sukhumvit and take the stairs until you see F*nkytown.
