Chocolate Buffet at The Fullerton Hotel

Chocolate here, chocolate there and chocolate everywhere! The Fullerton Hotel has brought back its much-loved chocolate buffet with a bang this year.

The Fullerton Hotel has become synonymous with the words ‘chocolate buffet’ in recent times. Since its launch, chocolate lovers have been flocking to this heritage hotel to have a taste of the chocolate buffet. Just last month, the kindred chocolate spirit decided to land on our craving hearts with more goodies. Here are some highlights of this decadent affair.

‘The Chocolate Buffet’ at The Fullerton Hotel is available every Friday and Saturday, from 8 to 10 pm.

Savoury Delights

Although commonly associated with desserts, chocolate can add a new flavour dimension to savoury food, too. Diners will be treated to the likes of  Wagyu Beef and Peruvian Chocolate Poblano Chilli wrapped up in Empanada pockets, and Cocoa and Spice-rubbed Baby Pork Ribs. The meat literally slid off the bone graciously as I impaled it with my fork – a very satisfying feeling.

Using cocoa as a spice rub is not unheard of, though rare in Singapore. The cocoa here helped to bring out the authentic, close-to-the-bone meat flavours that meat-lovers crave.

If ribs or beef aren’t your things, they also have a White Chocolate Smoked Trout Tart. The tart shell was buttery and crispy at the same time, filled with wholesome, salty smoked trout. No meal at the Chocolate Buffet will be complete without taking one (or five) of these tarts.

Chocolate Tasting Table

How much do we really know about our chocolate? As I had already lined my stomach with the savoury bites, I got down to the heart of the matter; chocolate. The Valrhona tasting table is a chocolate lover’s paradise. Learn about your favourite chocolate, its blends and composition with a bevvy of chocolate buttons that you can taste. Each button has a unique colour, thanks to its very own composition of chocolate, sugar and flavouring.

Liquid Nitrogen & Chocolate

Liquid nitrogen is all-the-rage in the food scene; even shops at night markets are jumping on the bandwagon. At the liquid nitrogen booth, diners can expect to see a blend of sharp raspberry and smooth chocolate. All this is brought together by a generous helping of liquid nitrogen, which helps the raspberry paste solidify and become little sour nuggets. This is then covered with a chocolate shell, which diners have to crack open to get to the goodness inside. The flavours here contrast and tickle each other, making this a refreshing change to the other chocolate dishes available.

Chocolate Calligraphy

This year’s chocolate buffet sees popular calligraphy artist Clarence Wee from Craft Varies at the buffet on alternate Saturdays, providing a new element to diners’ experience. Now, you can have your name written on your plate, in chocolate. Diners can submit their names to Clarence and he’ll work his magic on a plate – how cool it is to have your name written in chocolate?

Chocolate lovers all over the island (and world, if I may say so) can and will rejoice with the return of the chocolate buffet. Not only is it great on the palate, the new elements will help chocolate lovers learn more about this amazing food group. Yes, I think chocolates should be a food group. So shoot me.
