Chin Mee Chin NEX opened on 8 August 2026 at Serangoon NEX.
The confectionery founded in 1925 has been a neighbourhood anchor. Delicious kaya toast, classic cream puffs, and kopi served in enamel cups. Now, it’s expanding past the east to NEX.
The second outlet carries the same unhurried spirit, but this time in a bustling community mall in Serangoon.
On the Chin Mee Chin NEX table
The menu reads like a conversation between the old and the new. The Toast Sets at $6.50 still arrive with soft-boiled eggs and a hot drink, while the kaya is made from the family’s original recipe using only natural ingredients. The Luncheon Meat Bun, Otah Bun, and Hae Bee Hiam Bun are available at $2.80 each. Every pastry is baked fresh daily as they always have been.
The iconic brand has also introduced fresh items into the menu. The iconic kaya cream puff has been reimagined as a Kaya Custard Choux au Craquelin. Imagine a crisp craquelin shell cradling the house-made kaya custard that made the original famous. A Dark Chocolate Choux au Craquelin is also on the menu, both priced at $3.00 each or $10.00 for a box of four.
New savoury options expand the menu beyond breakfast hours.
There’s a Curry Potato Pie ($3.80) and Chicken Pie ($3.80) alongside more substantial mains: Nasi Lemak with Fried or Grilled Chicken Cutlet ($10.80) and a Grilled Kaffir Lime Chicken Sandwich ($8.80).
The sandwiches, including the fan-favourite Egg Mayo with Caramelised Onion at $7.80, make this a place worth returning to well past the morning rush.
The Drinks at Chin Mee Chin
Coffee has always been central to the Chin Mee Chin ritual, and the drinks menu at NEX serves. Your kopi and teh options are all there (hot from $2.20, iced from $2.70), along with Yuan Yang in three variations and a well-calibrated sugar-level system running from kosong to da gai.
The newcomers are the speciality drinks, served iced only: Kaya Cloud Kopi and Salted Gula Melaka Cloud Kopi, both at $5.50. Think of them as the house espresso drinks dressed for a new audience. The Pandan Tea at $3.00 and Calamansi Yakult at $4.50 round out the lighter options.
Old Soul, New Space
Soft pastels and rounded forms in the interiors pay homage to the OG Katong shophouse, while the open bakery displays and a visible coffee counter put toasting, brewing, and baking at the centre of the room.
After a hundred years in one postcode, that feels like exactly the right pace of growth.
